3 Oahu Local Spots You Won’t Want to Miss

Many first time visitors to the island of Oahu go with the flow.

They go where the crowds go and visit the busier spots around the island. While this is a great way to soak up the highlights offered around Oahu, there is a less spoken about side, and that’s what we will introduce to you today.

Take a look below at some of the lesser known spots around Oahu that locals enjoy but many tourists don’t!

Crouching Lion Hike

There are many hiking trails available to be explored by travelers on Oahu, but the Crouching Lion hike on the north eastern coast is a journey that will take you straight through the beautiful Hawaiian jungle and take you up high for a breathtaking view of Kahana Bay.

Crouching Lion Hike is a hike that has two routes, the shorter route being quite popular, and a longer 6.4 kilometer route. For those looking for an intense hiking challenge, the longer route can be a memorable experience, but it is recommended to only begin the longer route in the company of an experienced hiker and guide who knows the route.

Explore Oahu’s Chinatown district

All the way back in 1788 is when the first Chinese immigrants set foot on the shores of Oahu. Looking to work on the many sugarcane plantations that were popping up all over the island, they were hired and soon set up their new home here on the island. The neighborhood they built long ago still stands today.

Spread out over 15 blocks, Oahu’s Chinatown district is full of delicious foods, memorable experiences and stellar photo opportunities. From incredible and authentic Chinese cuisine to the nightlife available to those who know where to look, Chinatown on Oahu is certainly a spot you will want to go out of your way for.

Quieter and less crowded beaches of Oahu

Oahu has a long list of beaches that offer different coastal experiences for all types. For those looking for a beach day on the quieter side, Pokai Bay and Sherwood Beach are two of the lesser visited Oahu beaches.

Pokai Bay is home to some of the calmest waters on the island. Due to its breakwater offshore that blocks high surf, Pokai Bay has calm waters year-round and is a relaxing beach destination for families looking for a quiet place to unwind.

Another quiet and less visited beach on Oahu is Sherwood Beach. Nothing short of picturesque on a bright and sunny Hawaiian day, Sherwood Beach is home to clear blue waters, peace and quiet and some of the softest white sand on the island.
