Downtown Hilo
The streets of downtown Hilo are lined with beautiful antique buildings and storefronts, many of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. In the heart of downtown, you’ll find countless restaurants, galleries, shops and cultural hotspots each waiting to be explored by you. Come early for the Hilo Farmers Market, which is available to the public every morning, but is known to be at its biggest on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

Lyman Museum and Mission House
Explore Hilo’s heritage at the Lyman Museum, which features exhibits and displays showcasing the island’s rich history and local wildlife. The Lyman Museum is also known for its display of unique bird specimens as well as its expansive collection of rare gems and minerals, including a large display of Orlymanite, a gem discovered and named after the museum’s founder, Orlando Lyman. Once you are through touring the museum, be sure to take a walkthrough of the historic Lyman Mission House, the island’s oldest still-standing structure built in 1839 and just a short walk away from the Lyman Museum!

Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden
Take a relaxing stroll under the cool canopy of the tropical trees at the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, which provides shade to extensive walking paths and trails. Follow the trails into these gardens to discover one of Hawaii's most expansive collections of local palms, ferns, and orchids that have become iconic to the islands of Hawaii. Continue on these trails to discover a cascading waterfall, koi-filled lake, and a breathtaking aviary housing some of the island’s most colorful birds.

Located just outside of downtown Hilo, the Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaii provides a fascinating insight into how early Polynesian sailors navigated the seas using only the stars. Visitors can learn about astronomy and navigation through the Hawaiian perspective here at the Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaii, so don’t miss out on this attraction!

Liliuokalani Park and Garden
Tour a classic Japanese-style garden at the Liliuokalani Park and Garden, built to commemorate Hawaii’s last reigning monarch, Queen Lili'uokalani. Keep your camera handy as you stroll around these expansive gardens, lakes, pagodas and moon bridges as you explore these royal grounds, and be sure to stop for a hot cup of tea at the charming Shoroan Tea House!
利留卡拉尼公园
